Goodbye 2010. Hello 2011.

I went into 2010 with a positive spirit and determined to be structured and goal orientated. So this year have been dedicated to building skills and networks, aiming to give structure and fun to my life. It's been a very focused year and I'm proud of what I have achieved. So I leave 2010 satisfied that I have achieved what I set out to do. Mostly.

Thanks

I have a few people I need to give a special thanks to this year, cause without them I don't think I would have found the strength to go on.
  • Ian Cole for being an amazing artist, incredible mentor, innovative editor & general life saver. Your constant support and friendship, inspiring me to create and share art, is truly appreciated.
  • India Hobson for coming into my life and being an absolutely angel. Thanks for being an inspiration and for totally understanding me.
  • Simon for inspiring me to start shooting male fashion and for being a constant little inspirational muse.
  • Ben Adams for believing in never growing up and to go for what you want in life (and for finally moving back to the UK so I have an excuse to walk through the park more often).
  • D1 Models, M+P Models, Oxygen Models, Nevs Models and AMCK Models for letting me shoot their amazing models throughout the year!

I hope you have some coffee and are sitting comfortably if you want to get through this blog, cause it's a bit long. But there are lots of important things to say. And the most important part is near the end. But I want to do a review of last year first.

Review of my resolutions I set for 2010

- Improve my video editing skills - Worked more with video this year, and also learned how to use Adobe Premier.
- Exercise more - Was very good at this in Jan-Apr
- Learn a song I can impress people with on the piano - Ops...
- Be an awesome photographer - Am proud to have had some awesome moments of photography
- Do a shoot that pleases my creativity and senses once a month - have definitely done this and more!
- Be nice to Ben - I am always nice to Ben
- Grow my hair longer - Yes, my hair is now quite a bit longer. And according to Ben I no longer look like a boy #complimentoftheyear?
- Share useful information on Twitter - I have tweeted annoyingly much probably
- Take awesome pictures of the a1 boys - Took some awesome pics in January of the a1 boys
- Update my website and blog more regularly - Have been very good at this! Am proud of self.
- Make time to read other people's blogs - After I signed up to Bloglovin I now don't miss a blog I don't want to miss.
- Keep up to date on things web 2.0 - Am pretty up to speed on what's happening in the web 2.0 world through work
- Be happy with my weight - Was very happy with my weight till I comfort ate a lot this December! Will loose it in Jan/Feb again.
- Expand my networks - Have met some great and talented people this year who's been invaluable to my life and career
- Wear the expensive designer dress I bought in Iceland - I have not had a chance to wear it yet! Devastated. Although I did use it for a shoot.
- See a musical in the West end - I saw two! Legally Blonde & Greace.
- Light more candles - Yep. Tick.
- Regular worship of Joss Whedon - Bought box set of the Dollshouse, plus still wearing out my Buffy DVD collection
- Do fun things - Yep. Did lots of those.
- Spoil myself often - Have been moderately good at this. have spoiled self at times, and other times been working way too hard.
- Do a gooder job than a badder one - Still don't know what this one means.....
- Go on holiday - Yep. Thanks for looking at the stars with me Polly!
- Believe in beauty - This is a big chapter and I must blog separately about this. There is so much beauty I have discovered this year, and I have dedicated my time to see it and express it.
- Fall in love - #fail. Must move to next year.

Resolutions for 2011

This year in addition to setting my own resolutions, I also asked some of the most influencial people in my life and great friends to set a resolution for me.
  • Ian Cole - "Thou will not feed vodka to models in 2011" (not even my fave ones Ian?)
  • India Hobson - "Look after yourself and don't let boys take without giving"
  • Simon Jennings - "Stop that nose shit" (ref to my otrivin nasal spray addiction of years)
  • Ben Adams - "Only sleep with people 30 years old and over"

And while those are top of my mind and awfully helpful advise, I will also set some for myself:

- Shoot lots and create beautiful images
- Be inspired
- Do special project with India Hobson and make it as successful and fun as possible
- Expand on the modelling agencies I work with and shoot some more high profile models whilst still exploring new talent
- Get published in more print magazines as well as online fashion magazines
- Features on FTape and Models.com
- Continue to contribute to fashion blogs and expand on my contributions
- Expand on my industry networks, meeting talented and inspirational people
- Advance my video skills further and get more videos out there
- Don't deny myself the things I want
- Totally give into my new Tumblr addition
- Remember to listen to Christmas songs in September
- Travel and shoot
- Don't spend time on boys that are no good for me. Find the good ones.
- Have fun
- Continue to share my work via my blogs and social networking sites. The amount of support I've had from people this year has been amazing and so needed to keep me going. Thanks!
- Choose to still believe in love

Steph at OhLaLa Mag recently told me that life will give you things when you are ready to receive them. I thought this was a great way to see things, and it gives me a lot of hope and a very positive outlook on 2011.

Happy New Year everyone - may it be full of success and awesomeness for all of you!

Happy Christmas!

I have always loved Christmas. And although the Christmas celebrations from when I was little have changed, I still love this time of year. There is something about the feel of it, relaxing, spending time with friends and family and Norwegian traditions that I love. As if by miracle I managed to make it back to Norway for Christmas. Hopefully I will make it back to London again. But for now I am putting all worries aside and will celebrate a very relaxing Christmas.

I leave you with this Norwegian Christmas song my friend introduced to me which I think is lovely. I hope you have a peaceful celebration with your loved ones. Happy Christmas everyone!

Boys of Leisure | Client Magazine Issue 02 on Design Scene

Very proud to be able to share more work with you from this editorial with Sim & Tom that I shot in Milan a couple of months back. This is possibly one of my favorite shoots I've done for a few reasons: 1) it was simply wonderful to be able to explore a city and capture it's beauty in a fashion story, 2) the models involved are inspirational to work with and I know they will always get great results and 3) working with a very international team abroad was so much fun.

To see more images from this story, see Design Scene

Sim Jennings & Tom Norkett for Client Magazine

Sofia provided some great styling and also helped show me locations we could shoot at. The thing about Milan is that there are some really beautiful parts, but you have to know where they are. Adrian was a life saver with the grooming and gave the boys some damn cool hair. Due to all the elements being with a Milan twist, the story ended up with such a cool feel that I couldn't have achieved in London.

Boys of Leisure, Client Magazine 02

Would love to do another shoot in Milan one day, and also explore other cities next year to shoot in. Was definitely a really exciting way to work!

Playing with Adam

I really like models with features and often find that there is something about a model I want to work with that excites me and makes me want to shoot them. I have a big lip obsession for instance and can't resist shooting a model with great lips. However with Adam it was his light hair. When he went blonde I really liked what it added to his look and got him into my studio so I could play with him. I wanted to play with white.

I got the lovely (and slightly crazy, but in a good way) Eugenia in to do hair and make-up. I told her my plans to play with white and she was all in on the plan. We practically painted him white. Thought I'd share with you exclusively here one of the results from our fun and games.

Adam

I captured another setting with Adam on my roof just as the sun went down. I've been obsessed lately with playing with light, and find myself chasing light and playing with light & shadows.

During the sunset I got some stunning light to play with. Having to work really fast as the light was disappearing at record speed. It's like a photographer adrenaline rush! Lauren provided some cool styling for this shoot.

Melker images on FTape

Images from my recent Carbon Copy issue 02 editorial is currently on FTape. Swedish born M+P model Melker Andersson is one of the promising faces on the FTape Model Wall, so as a fellow scando it was only natural I HAD to work with him. Twice.

I also managed to squeeze in a second editorial with him that will be out in the new year, before he is out of town for Christmas and then off to Milan and Paris fashion week. I will be sure to plan something more amazing with this young model when he is back for London fashion week.

Working with a Graphic Designer

I recently worked on a submission where I involved a graphic designer to get the right look and feel of the story. Exciting!

This was such a new experience and a really good one. I believe myself and Kim A Larsen (SinnSykShit) found each other through Twitter and creatives we had in common. Looking through his work he had some really cool stuff, so when I was looking for someone to help do some creative stuff with my images he seemed like the perfect fit.

Despite being on the other side of the world (Australia although he also happens to be a common viking and from Norway), he is one of the nicest and most committed people I've worked with. With an extremely short timeline to get the final results in in time, we both pretty much worked around the clock to get to where we wanted to be. Hopefully the hard work will pay off. The amount of coffee I can only imagine Kim consumed to stay awake for that long, must be quite impressive.

I really like the thought of mixing different types of media, and to see my own work integrated with another artists was such a cool experience. And due to good communication I practically felt we were sitting next to each other whilst working on this project. I used two male models for this, and some cool designer clothes. Can't wait to be able to show you!

As we are still waiting to hear if our submission will be accepted or not, I leave you for now with some of his previous work till I'm able to show you some of the work we did together.

Floating school for boys

During my shoots I often work with new faces who ask me for tips on how to pose, move, facial expressions etc. I often show them some videos (as I am rubbish at posing myself).

I once asked Simon what the weirdest instruction a photographer had given him during a shoot and he told me one photographer had asked him to float. And he was thinking "wtf...?". At the time of this story I laughed as I found it funny, although later I've realised that Simon already floats when he poses and that this is one of the reasons I like shooting with him so much. I'm not sure if this is what the photographer in question meant, but for me floating simply means to keep it moving and flowing when posing through the shoot. My advise to models tends to be to keep giving me small variations, keep moving (yet not too fast or I don't have time to capture it), move naturally and not forced, and don't be afraid to try things outside your comfort zone. Use the clothes you are wearing to play with and show off in a natural way. And if you're shooting on location, use the environment to help give a natural feel to your posing. Also remember that at the same time that you are actually modelling what you're wearing, you also want to show off your different angles, to provide some variety.

So I thought I'd post this blog including some videos of some of my best "floaters" so that when I get questions from male models who wants to improve on their posing I can simply show them the link to this blog to start with.

My next advise would be to find other models you aspire to be like and google to find some videos of them. Then practice. The more you know what works for you, the better results you will get when you are shooting.

I will add more videos to this as I create them.

Carbon Copy Issue 02 editorial - "I am Melker"

Another reason I'm excited about the second issue of Carbon Copy is my second editorial in it with Melker Andersson (M+P Models). I shot him recently in my studio, and got some amazing results.

As a fellow scandinavian, I knew he would be totally awesome. Despite his young age, Melker is one of those models who knows how to move. His confidence and creativity is inspiring, and have forced me to simply work with him again!

Daleya Hassan provided some great styling for the shoot and Josie Heighton-Towers provided awesome grooming (not guitar playing). To see/buy the full story:

Carbon Copy Issue 02 editorial - "Everyone is Broken"

Super excited about the release of issue 2 of Carbon Copy by Client Magazine. Especially as I have a very special story including Sim Jennings (Oxygen) in it. For those of you who follow my blog you'll know he's my little muse and I'll shoot him as often as I can. Totally adore him.

Sim Jennings for Carbon Copy Issue 02

Another thing with this editorial that makes me very exciting is that the lovely people at David Andersen based in Denmark send me clothes to shoot with from their AW10 collection. I'm in love with their styles and was so excited to do a story with this collection, including Sim, located at the very beautiful Lordship Park.

The story is called "Everyone is Broken" as I find that in general a lot of people pretends to be happy on the outside, but when in fact a lot of people are hurting inside and carrying it around on their own. For me photography is a way to express what I feel I can't say, and saying things with beautiful fashion, gorgous models, awesome locations and great images makes me happy.

This shoot was such a pleasure and a little oasis of a day and I wish I could have it back. It flowed really nicely and I had such a great team with me. Gabriella Ciullo was a little bit of sunshine as always, doing the hair and make-up. You can check out the David Andersen collections here. The editorial also includes an interview with the Danish born designer by moi.

It's all so super that you all must go buy this issue! haha You can order it online (see links below). It ships internationally, so good news for those not based in the UK as well. I also have a second editorial in this issue, which I shall blog about tomorrow, so check back in then as well.

I recently shot the lovely Marthynus at AMCK models. Apparently this young south african model dislikes clowns and his favorite grooming product is soap. Yep. I stole that straight from his FTape interview didn't I. At only 17 it will be really interesting to follow his model journey. He was rather awesome to work with.
